Labour’s landslide General Election victory in early July was swiftly followed by a deluge of government action in the pensions arena – including the announcement of a Pension Schemes Bill and a landmark pensions review, led by the first ever joint Treasury and Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) minister for pensions Emma Reynolds.

The first part of the review – focused on developing policy in areas including driving "scale" and "consolidation" of DC workplace schemes as well as tackling "fragmentation" and "inefficiency" in the Local Government Pension Scheme – is now underway, with an interim report as well as two significant reform consultations, published as part of Chancellor Rachel Reeves’ Mansion House speech announcements in November.

The second phase of the review will start later this year and, alongside investment, will consider further steps to improve pension outcomes, including assessing retirement adequacy.

In addition to all of this, there was also further pensions change in the Autumn Budget on 30 October – and, while heavily rumoured changes on pensions tax did not go ahead, the Budget did make inherited pensions subject to inheritance tax.

This webinar will take a long-term look at the future of pensions policy – looking at what the government’s key priorities are; how these priorities could be achieved; and the implications for pension schemes and their members.
