The gender pension gap starts early, appears in all sectors and, according to Legal & General’s research, means that at retirement, women’s pension pots are generally worth around half as much as men’s. Sarah Luheshi, Deputy Director of the Pensions Policy Institute and Stuart Murphy, Co-Head of DC at Legal & General Investment Management (LGIM), will examine the reasons behind the gap, look at what might help redress the balance and explain why the societal fall-out from pension inequality means this isn’t just a women’s issue.

Jonathan is editor of Professional Pensions and has been reporting on UK occupational pensions since 2001. He has won a number of awards during his career, most recently the SPP Trade Journalist of the Year Award in 2019. He is also holder of the PMI's Retirement Provision Certificate.
Stuart is Co-Head of DC and leads the management of LGIM’s DC business. His responsibilities include client management, client proposition, relationship management strategy and managing the support for the Legal & General Mastertrust and IGC, this includes chairing the Mastertrust Scheme Strategist Forum. Stuart has been with Legal & General for over 20 years fulfilling a number of roles within the bundled DC business.
Sarah joined the Pensions Policy Institute (PPI) at the start of 2015. In addition to being the Deputy Director, she also manages the PPI's research programme and policy research and modelling teams. Sarah brings over thirty years’ experience in financial services having started in the corporate world working for a FTSE 100 composite insurance company before moving into management consultancy and has held senior roles in strategy, marketing and customer services. Throughout her career, both in the UK and overseas Sarah has used qualitative and quantitative research to ensure that outcomes are customer focused. In January 2021 Sarah was appointed to the PLSA’s Policy Board.
